Can you solve StoryWalk®: Coded Tales?

Get your family outside to stretch their legs, read a book, and solve a puzzle with StoryWalk®: Coded Tales.

For June, Miss Jill has added a special twist for the Tails & Tales Summer Reading Program. The book for this month is The Night Before the New Pet by Natasha Wing and illustrated by Amy Wummer. “It's the night before the adoption of a puppy and the whole family can hardly wait. Everyone helps prepare: they buy treats, set up a crate, and discuss what they should name the pet. When they get to the shelter, they see all kinds of dogs — until they spot the perfect one for them. But a last-minute surprise makes things twice as exciting!”

Before you begin your walk, stop by the library’s front desk and pick up a Coded Tales worksheet. As you walk from business to business, each page will be marked with a letter that should be written on the worksheet. When you finish the story, you will have spelled out a special message that you can return to the library to receive a special prize.

The StoryWalk®:Coded Tales begins at the Upper Sandusky Community Library and continues in the windows of the following businesses: A Cut Above, Corner Inn, SURGE, Neumeister’s Candy Shoppe, Fay Family Dental Care, A.J.’s Heavenly Pizza, Johnson Orthodontics, The Barber Shop, Community First Bank, First Citizens National Bank, American Family Insurance, Richardson Flower, Upper Fire Systems, and Woods’ Antiques N More.

StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children – and adults – to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. A StoryWalk® is a book that has been taken apart and presented page by page on a trail, bike path, or in store windows to promote reading and exercise. StoryWalk® was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library. Miss Jill and the Upper Sandusky Community Library initially brought the concept to the community in July and have presented a new StoryWalk® each month.
