Join a Summer Reading Program!

It’s been a crazy few months, but the Upper Sandusky Community Library is sliding back into the summer routine with its 2020 Summer Reading Programs.

If you know which program you'd like to sign up for, then scroll down to the bottom of this page and fill out the Google Form or simply click here. Otherwise, read on to see what the Upper Sandusky Community Library is doing for its Summer Reading Programs!

WEE READ

The Wee Read Summer Reading Program involves an activity sheet that enables even the youngest child to share in the joy of reading. Caregivers simply need to check the box of a finished activity and then bring the completed form to the circulation desk by July 31. Multiple activity sheets can be completed throughout the summer reading program. Once a child completes an activity sheet, they can turn that sheet in to receive a board book.

ELEMENTARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The Elementary Summer Reading Program, which is for children ages 3 through fifth grade, will give you a Candyland vibe this year. The game board will feature segments that require the reader to read for 15 minutes or complete an activity. Make sure to grab a copy of the instructions to help you along. When the child reaches a point within the path, they will receive a prize. The prize can be picked up the next time the child visits the library. Don’t stop at the prize point, however! Keep on going and reach the end of the board game. If you finished one board game, pick up another game sheet and keep on reading.

CRAFTY KIDS VIDEOS

Make sure to visit the library's Facebook page or YouTube channel every Monday from June through the end of July to see the latest craft video Miss Jill has created for you to do.

KIDS CAN COOK VIDEOS

There's going to be even more fun on the Upper Sandusky Community Library's Facebook page and YouTube channel. Kids Can Cook: Summer Reading Program Edition videos will debut on June 11, June 25, July 9, and July 23. Make sure to check our website or Facebook page ahead of time to find out which ingredients you'll need for the week. As your child makes the dish, make sure to take a picture or a video of the creation and send it to us on Facebook!

TEEN SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Imagine your story with the Teen Summer Reading Program. Miss Lisa has a host of games and activities for teens to complete over the next two months with BINGO, chalk art, a zen mini garden, “Tell Your Own Story” collage, and Randonauting. Teens will also be taking their activities into the social realms on Instagram and TikTok with specialized hashtags. Check out @upperlibraryteens on both sites to get involved. Make sure to download the activities sheets or pick them up at the library to participate.

ADULT SUMMER READING PROGRAM

The Adult Summer Reading Program will feature BINGO, prizes, and a craft. The BINGO cards can be picked up at the Upper Sandusky Community Library’s circulation desk or downloaded here. Every time you get a horizontal, diagonal, or vertical BINGO, you’ll get an additional entry form for a prize drawing. Simply bring your BINGO card to the circulation desk to verify your BINGO and receive an entry form for the prize drawing at the end of July. If you have entirely filled out your BINGO card, you can always pick up another entry form and continue playing. The more you read and participate in activities, the more chances you have to win a prize.

The Adult Summer Reading Program will also feature a take-and-make felt summer succulent craft. The materials will be provided to you and can be picked up at the circulation desk. If you want to know more about the craft, check out these instructions and see if it’s something you’re interested in!

The Adult Summer Reading Program features prizes from the following businesses: A&A, AJ’s Heavenly Pizza, Beca House, Cheers 2 U, Domino’s Pizza, Koehler Drug Store, Marketplace, Mustard Seed, and Neumister’s Candy Store. A special thank you to these businesses who have donated prizes: East of Chicago Pizza and Schuster’s Flowers.
